Exams and Cleanings
Bringing children in for professional cleanings and checkups twice a year is the best method for preventing serious dental problems. These visits ensure that any problems are caught and fixed before they progress and become serious. They help us track your child’s oral health.
At your child’s first visit, we will complete a thorough comprehensive examination of all teeth, soft tissue, and hard tissue, including an oral cancer screening. We will take the necessary x-rays and perform a professional cleaning.
Fluoride
At the end of the visit, we will apply a fluoride varnish to the surfaces of the teeth, either with a soft brush or fluoride trays. Studies have shown that fluoride can provide lasting benefits for the teeth for up to several months after the child’s visit, and helps to prevent the occurrence of decay.
Dental Sealants
Molars and premolars often have deep grooves that are difficult to clean. These grooves make it easy for plaque and bacteria to accumulate on the tooth, causing decay. The application of dental sealants is a great way to prevent decay on these teeth. Dental sealants are a thin plastic coating usually applied to these uneven surfaces to seal out bacteria and food particles, preventing the formation of decay. Sealant application is a simple, effective, and painless process.
